YOUR SAFARI DAY-BY-DAY

Day 1: Johannesburg to a Cultural Camp, Limpopo

Our journey begins as we head out North via Polokwane to our authentic African cultural village, located in rural Limpopo province. Here we will be accommodated in traditional ‘rondawel' huts with thatched roofs. After lunch and time to settle into camp, the afternoon is spent enjoying an introduction to the African way of life, including a traditional dancing experience at the local village. After a full day, dinner is enjoyed at the main lapa, followed by coffee/drinks around the campfire – the experience is enhanced by the African Ivory Route staff sharing their stories of the local Shangaan history and culture. Fall asleep on your comfortable beds listening to the sounds of the African bush around you. Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner (Breakfast for your own account)

Day 2: Cultural camp to Manyeleti Big 5 Game Reserve

We wake early and head off with our guide to view the centuries-old practice of salt extraction from the mineral rich water of the fountain, still practiced today by the local Shangaan women with all the traditional rituals. After returning to camp and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we pack up and head off into the Kruger National park for a fantastic day of game viewing in the air-conditioned Ashtons vehicle. We stop for lunch at one of Kruger's main rest camps, before continuing our drive through the park. We make our way out of Kruger in the late afternoon and enter the neighbouring Manyeleti game reserve - sharing an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park this is a prime ‘Big Five' area. At Ndzhaka Camp we will be accommodated in permanent safari tents on raised wooden platforms each with its own private viewing deck. After sundowners and time to settle into camp, dinner is enjoyed at the main lapa, followed by coffee/drinks around the campfire while listening to the sounds of the nocturnal creatures in the surrounding bush. No other people, vehicles or noises - just nature! Meal plan: Breakfast, Dinner (Lunch for your own account)

Day 3 & 4: Manyeleti Game Reserve

Early morning guided game drive (3-4 hours) in the capable hands of our African Ivory Route ranger and tracker. After breakfast at the central lapa, the rest of the day is spent at leisure relaxing at the camp, enjoying the sounds of the bush around us. For those who are keen, a visit to some of the nearby waterholes in the middle of the day will often yield good sightings of elephant and buffalo. In the late afternoon we depart for another exciting guided game drive (3-4 hours), stopping for sundowners at one of the reserves waterholes, before searching for the predators by spotlight. Dinner is enjoyed at the main lapa, before sharing stories of wildlife sightings around the campfire and soaking up the big African night sky. Just you, the animals and the bush! Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Johannesburg via the Panorama Route

Early morning guided game drive (3-4 hours) in Manyeleti, searching for the animals we may not yet have seen under the expert guidance of our qualified ranger and tracker. Breakfast at the central lapa before packing up and preparing for departure. On our journey back to Johannesburg we stop at some of the scenic highlights of Mpumalanga such as Blyde River Canyon and God's Window. Meal plan: Breakfast (Lunch & Dinner for your own account)
