LOCATION
  • Akeru is situated in the Timbavati Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province .
  • For centuries the Timbavati has remained untouched, retaining its wild rugged character and is home to all of Africa 's big game.
  • The camp over looks a waterhole which is visited by the Timbavati's small and big game. Time stands still here for guests who while away many an hour relaxing at the pool watching the animals quench their thirst.
FACILITIES
  • Akeru is a small, intimate camp which accommodates just sixteen guests.
  • It is ideal for hosting small gatherings of family, friends, mini brain storming sessions, staff incentives and children of all ages are welcome.
  • Here you will find a true African bush experience that is completely relaxed, tranquil and informal.
  • The social area includes a lounge with a fireplace, an honesty bar, an inside-outside dining room area, an elevated loft area where children can learn about the secrets and surprises of the African bush.
  • Guests can relax and unwind on the tree shaded pool deck and cool down from the midday heat in the sparkling pool whilst gazing out onto the waterhole
  • Lanterns for light, eco-friendly battery power for fans and gas geysers for hot water are just some of the specifics that ensure an original luxurious rustic bush experience. Four poster beds, white linen and draped mosquito nets ensure absolute romance.
  • Each of the seven thatched chalets is en-suite with both shower and bath. The rooms offer a combination of family suites, doubles and twins to satisfy everyone's specific requirements
  • The much awaited “Honeymoon suite” was launched recently. This room is fitted out with a Kingsized four poster bed and has a unique and ethnic style. Funky beaded throws, bright cushions and accessories add a splash of colour whilst aged black and white photographs blend it in to create the old timeless feel that is Akeru. This room has a private patio with a view of the waterhole.

ACTIVITIES

  • Professional armed rangers and trackers conduct all game drives in pursuit of Africa 's big five and other game, birds and reptiles.
  • Daily walks are encouraged, thus ensuring that the more fascinating aspects of the fauna and flora are not overlooked - emphasising an appreciation of the complete wilderness experience
  • Safaris depart just after sunrise each day in an open fully equipped vehicle.
  • Tracking Africa 's big game, the evening safari leaves after you have enjoyed afternoon tea and continues into the night after sundowners at a panoramic viewpoint.
  • The call of a tribal drum announces an array of culinary delights. Meals are typical "home cooking" gastronomic affairs and great care is taken to ensure that even the most discerning tastes are well satisfied. Enjoy a fire cooked meal in the ultimate alfresco experience - an open air boma or a starlit banquet under the African skies next to the waterhole.
  • Meals are a social event and are eaten together around one communal table where stories are shared of the fascinating tales of the bush. Private dinners may also be requested.

KIDS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

  • Akeru is a family orientated lodge and has developed an educational programme specifically for the children.
  • On arrival, kids are given a package (to the value of R100.00) which includes a CD with games, quizzes and loads of information as well as colouring books and crayons and fabric paints (for T-shirt painting).
  • The lodge has a designated area where the children can sit with one of the Akeru Rangers and learn the secrets and surprises about wildlife and their bushveld environment. There are samples of animal bones, snake skins, porcupine quills etc and they will also, in the course of the programme be able to do a short bushwalk around the waterhole and even make plaster of paris moulds of animal tracks etc
  • This programme is proving to be extremely popular with guests, especially the kids
