cultural camps - african ivory route

The Exclusive Big 5 Safari & Culture tours incorporate one night at a Cultural Camp on the African Ivory Route in South Africa 's Limpopo Province . Dependant on departure dates, and in order to offer unique experiences, different camps will be visited on different tours/packages. Each of the camps has its own special attractions, location and atmosphere, but with the same facilities and standards on offer.

  • The 2 fantastic Cultural Camps used on the Ashtons Tours are: Modjadji and Baleni
  • Both are Cultural Village Camps located in local tribal communities of the Limpopo Province .
  • These authentic African Villages are specially constructed to provide exclusive and safe accommodation and are located in close proximity to the local community.
  • The camps offer rondavel accommodation built in the traditional African style; each hut is fitted with two comfortable beds
  • There are separate shared ablution blocks with hot water showers and flushing toilets.
  • We will meet and enjoy our meals in the central lapa and barbeque area - perfect for story-telling around the blazing camp fire.
  • The central kitchen and dining area (lapa) is thatched and equipped with paraffin freezers, tables and chairs and all cooking and eating utensils.
  • All lighting is by paraffin lamps.
  • Camp staff are in attendance to provide interesting information and assistance. They will introduce us to the local community and attractions - making for a true cultural experience and a real encounter with rural Africa.
