greater kruger safari & cultural camp info

The Greater Kruger Safari and Cultural Camps are for the eco-connoisseur - the person drawn to the African wild and its wilderness. Here the bushveld tells the tale of the ivory, gold and slave trade routes that were established more than a thousand years ago by Arab and African merchant traders.

Wild and untamed, these magnificent camps are part of the more than 3.6 million hectares (9 million acres) of national parks, nature reserves and game farms stretching across South Africa 's mystical Limpopo Province.

A brainchild of Limpopo Tourism, this concept offers an opportunity to experience Africa , its wildlife and culture in a unique way, which is not available via the usual tourist routes. To avoid disrupting the ecosystem the roads remain rudimentary and cater primarily for the 4x4 traveller. Meticulous safari tented encampments and traditional cultural villages provide excellent accommodation in keeping with the spirit and environment of untamed Africa.

At all camps, qualified camp staff is in attendance to advise on the local environment, fauna and flora, and to accompany guests on game drives and walks, as well as to assist within the camp. Having grown up in the surrounding local communities, they offer a wealth of information, and will enhance your cultural and wildlife experience enormously. And even better, this is meaningful community upliftment at grass root level.

Dusty roads lead to these unspoilt locations and central bomas accommodate communal meals under the African stars. The sounds of Africa can be heard outside of the circle of firelight! Lighting is by paraffin lamps and friendly staff are there to escort you safely to your tent at the end of an exciting day and evening.

Picture an African village in which you are accommodated in an authentic traditional African hut. Deep in the heart of Venda - the "land of legends", where the African drum beats - lives a people anchored in their tradition, culture and rituals. People with warm hearts, friendly smiles and many stories to tell. Or Modjadji, the Realm of the Rain Queen, where you can visit her Royal Kraal or see the age-old cycad forest, where 800 year old cycads reach six metres in height. Here you experience everyday life in rural Africa, and come to appreciate the traditions and cultures of the local people.

This is "hands on" Africa, providing an in-depth view of the wildlife of South Africa and the culture of its people. Feel the beat of Africa in every fibre, and experience the passion that will bring you back for more!
