The African Ivory Route is for the eco-connoisseur - the person drawn to the African wild and its wilderness. Here the bushveld tells the tale of the ivory, gold and slave trade routes that were established more than a thousand years ago by Arab and African merchant traders.

Wild and untamed, the African Ivory Route is part of the more than 3.6 million hectares (9 million acres) of national parks, nature reserves and game farms stretching across South Africa 's mystical Limpopo Province.

A brainchild of Limpopo Tourism, the African Ivory Route offers an opportunity to experience Africa , its wildlife and culture in a unique way, which is not available via the usual tourist routes. To avoid disrupting the ecosystem the roads remain rudimentary and cater primarily for the 4x4 traveller. Meticulous safari tented encampments and traditional cultural villages provide excellent accommodation in keeping with the spirit and environment of the African Ivory Route.

At all camps, qualified camp staff is in attendance to advise on the local environment, fauna and flora, and to accompany guests on game drives and walks, as well as to assist within the camp.
