safari camps - african ivory route

The Exclusive Big 5 Safari packages incorporate 2-4 nights at African Ivory Route Safari Camps in Greater Kruger Park. Dependant on the departure dates you choose and the corresponding camp availability, different camps will be visited on different packages. Each of the camps has its own special attractions, location and atmosphere, but with the same facilities and standards on offer.

  • The 3 fantastic Safari Camps used on the Ashtons Tours are: Ndzhaka Safari Camp; Buffelshoek Tented Encampment and Ntomeni Safari Camp.
  • These camps are all situated in wildlife reserves adjoining the Kruger National Park and they provide a close-up Big 5 experience. Close encounters with wildlife are not unusual!
  • We will meet and enjoy our meals in the central lapa and barbeque area - perfect for story-telling around the blazing camp fire.
  • All lighting is by paraffin lamps providing a true taste of the real Africa.

Accommodation at Ndzhaka and Ntomeni is in the form of:

  • Large safari tents, each with 2 comfortable 3/4 beds and large drop-down canvas windows with mosquito netting.
  • The tents are permanently mounted on raised wooden platforms , with a wooden bathroom en-suite and a viewing deck with chairs.
  • The en-suite bathrooms each offer a flushing toilet, basin with running cold water and authentic bucket shower - filled with hot water heated by gas stoves.
  • The entire structure is housed beneath a rubberized canvas roof, giving the look and feel of a house made of canvas and wood.

The basic structure of the Buffelshoek Tented Encampment is the same as that found at Ndzhaka and Ntomeni, but the accommodation is slightly different:

  • The camp is literally located in the middle of the bush and accommodation is in 2-person dome tents instead of the safari tents.
  • Each tent is mounted on a wooden deck under a thatched roof, and offers comfortable stretcher beds with mattresses, flushing toilet & wash basin.
  • Showers with the same specifications as above are provided at central ablution facilities next to the main camp lapa.

At all 3 locations, camp staff are in attendance at all times to provide information, assistance and guiding services. They are well trained in all aspects of the bush.
